ISS tracker
The view follows the ISS around its orbit, propagated with SGP4 from CelesTrak elements. While NASA's public ISSLive stream (Mission Control console data) is live, the station is placed from its own GNC state vector, and a window of gauges shows its orbit, cabin air and solar arrays.
The ISS camera (isscam=1) looks straight down past NASA's 3D model of the station, its arrays posed from the live telemetry. Tiangong (track=tiangong) and SAT GUS (track=satgus) can be followed the same way.
How to read it
The ISS is the labeled marker the view rides along with: filled while it’s in sunlight, hollow in the Earth’s shadow, with its past half orbit as a fading trail and the next half dashed. The label at the top left gives its altitude, speed and whether it’s sunlit. It circles the Earth about every 92 minutes, some 420 km up at about 7.7 km/s, so the ground under it changes fast.
When the telemetry window says LIVE, the position comes from the station’s own navigation state vector; LOS means it’s out of contact with the relay satellites, and the last values are shown dimmed with their age. Otherwise SGP4 places it from the latest elements, which agree with the telemetry to about a kilometer. Keys 6, 7 and 8 follow the ISS, Tiangong and SAT GUS; a drag lets go and looks around; Shift+L cycles the telemetry window.
Questions
Where is the ISS right now?
At the marker in the middle of this view. It’s worked out in your browser for this moment, from CelesTrak’s orbital elements or NASA’s live state vector, and the globe under it is drawn for the same instant, lit by the real Sun, so you can see whether it’s over day or night.
Can I see the ISS from where I am?
With the naked eye, when it passes over you in a dark sky while it’s still in sunlight: in the hours after sunset or before sunrise. On the globe that’s the filled marker crossing near the day–night line (\ draws it) not far from you.
What does the ISS camera show?
Open it from the ISS window, or add isscam=1 to the link: the station seen from 120 m above, looking straight down at the Earth, its solar arrays posed from the live telemetry. The ground is NASA’s 500 m Blue Marble by day and the newest night’s lights by night, without clouds.
