Earthquake map
Earthquakes of M2.5 and up from the last 24 hours, from USGS, and EMSC's for Europe and the Mediterranean, pushed as they're published, as rings sized by magnitude and colored by age, with labels on the largest.
Under the rings of those USGS has made one for, its ShakeMap: how hard the ground shook around them, in USGS's intensity colors from III (felt indoors) to X. Tsunami bulletins from NOAA's two Tsunami Warning Centers are drawn at the epicenter.

How to read it
Each ring is a quake, half again as wide for each step of magnitude, colored by age: red within the hour, orange within 6 hours, then yellow. The largest few, and any of M6 or more, with a tsunami flag or with a PAGER alert, are labeled. USGS’s feed is read every 5 minutes; EMSC’s quakes arrive over a live connection within moments of being published, usually 3 to 9 minutes after the shaking.
The colored patches under some rings are USGS ShakeMaps: how hard the ground shook, in the Modified Mercalli scale’s colors from III (felt indoors) to X (extreme), fading out toward the map’s edge. Most small quakes have none. A tsunami bulletin from NOAA’s warning centers is a ringed marker at the epicenter. Q turns quakes off and on.
Questions
Why are there more small quakes in the US than elsewhere?
USGS lists small quakes mainly where its own networks are dense, so outside the US its feed has few of the smaller ones. EMSC fills in Europe and the Mediterranean; elsewhere the map shows fewer small quakes than there were.
What does clicking a quake show?
Its magnitude, depth, PAGER alert (USGS’s estimate of the toll), tsunami flag, strongest ShakeMap intensity, and a link to the USGS or EMSC event page. The link keeps the pick, so it opens the same quake again.
Does this map predict earthquakes?
No: it shows quakes after seismologists have located them. After a strong quake near a coast, follow your national warning center or tsunami.gov; the bulletins drawn here come from them.
